- Unlike other knowledge stations where all 20 marks are allocated to the knowledge domain, an Applied Surgical Sciences stationās marks are distributed as follows
- 12 Clinical Knowledge
- 4 Clinical Skills
- 4 Professionalism
- The Professionalism domain does not change between different stations
Mistakes weāve seen š±
- Not listening properly to the question and answering a different question ā If in doubt, ask the examiner to repeat the question
- Not attempting questions at all ā Never say āI donāt knowā, make an educated guess, you have nothing to lose
- Overthinking questions ā donāt second-guess, MRCS questions are generally straightforward.
How to clear a station you have not prepared š
- 4 Marks: In all ASS stations, there are 4 marks dedicated to professionalism ā easily secure these 4 marks by ticking all the boxes in the professionalism domain.
- 2 Marks: In most ASS stations, there will be at least one question about managing an ill patient ā Answer this question using the CCrISP approach.
- 2 Marks: In most ASS stations, there will be at least one radiology scan with a clearly visible pathology to interpret ā Prepare a spiel for interpreting an X-ray, CT scan, or an MRI.
